Comments From Reviewers of Process Mastering

I liked the book a lot. It is a smart, practical application of some important principles and methods for quality improvement. It is well suited for anyone looking for an immediately applicable approach to understanding processes, improving them and standardizing them. It has three outstanding features. First it is loaded with practical tools, guidelines, advice and methods. Second it has many examples and stories, making it easy to read and understand; third it is based on a solid philosophy of improvement inherited from the masters, Deming, Juran, and Ishikawa - and evolved over the past nearly fifty years. I recommend Process Mastering for your short list of important books on quality.

Please let me know when this book is in print, so I may add it to my suggested reading list. Thank you.

This is a very readable and highly effective application of the quality management principles set forth by Dr. Deming. The straight forward, step-by-step approach to process mastery is strongly recommended to all who seriously want to continuously improve the quality of their operations and their product.

I appreciate the opportunity to review your book. In our company the ineffective process aimed at process standardization has been to massively rewrite manuals every few years. This commitment of a massive amount of resource episodically is not sustainable and does not yield a satisfactory result. The process master approach has a lot to teach us. We need to simultaneously put the spotlight on processes one at a time and keep the overall structure in focus. Process Mastering gives us a path to do this.

In praise and acclamation of Process Mastering by Paul and Ray. They have struck on how TQM and related concepts can be a great boon to those who labor daily on the shop floors. First by providing the workers on the floor, the recognized process matter experts, a direct voice in their daily effort guided by the customer desires and voice of the process. Secondly, the common ground of safety first, followed closely by quality with direction being given by the customers are concepts that everyone regardless of position, title or job can fully embrace as being essential for the survival of all who endeavor in any business.

The methods, means and examples in this book are fundamentally sound and easy to comprehend in a no nonsense manner. This would be a very good road map for anyone who is starting a Quality Control strategy or trying to re-focus a floundering effort. This work also is one that does not threaten but rather promotes and recognizes labor's direct contribution, efforts and legitimate role. I highly recommend the use of this book. This is not a book to read only to advance one's understanding. Process Mastering is one to be put directly to use!

Since we mastered our processes, we do more work, much better, in less time, with fewer people. As a result we all take great pride and satisfaction in our success and are motivated to try to improve on what we have done.

Standardization is a very important path for improving work processes. This is usually skipped in improvement efforts in America. We now have a simple, easy to use methodology to standardizing work processes. Our excuses are going away.

Overall I believe the book will be quite helpful for organizations concerned with quality assurance, quality control, customer satisfaction, employee safety and environmental stewardship. As you well know, when variation is allowed in some critical processes and day-to-day standards, the end result can be cataclysmic to our environment and disastrous to human health and safety. I believe that using Process Mastering to identify the critical safety and environmental elements of a process will reduce the risks associated with the system. This book should be used in our universities when educating our soon-to-be safety and health professionals.
