Learn About Process Mastering
Process Mastering: How to Establish and Document the Best Known Way to Do a Job is the title of a recently published book by Ray W. Wilson and Paul Harsin. The book is published by Taylor & Francis.
Our basic belief is that workers want to do good work and that they know best the details of doing their jobs. Process Mastering allows them to do just that.
We define a process as a grouping in sequence of all interrelated tasks directed at producing a particular outcome.
We begin with the premise that if the outcome of any process can be made more predictable, things will be better. In other words, if we can reduce the variation in the output from any activity, we will have happier customers and less waste. The method we have developed for doing this is called Process Mastering.
We define Process Mastering as a discipline which focuses on reducing process variation and increasing process knowledge through the efforts of process experts, linking customers and suppliers. In this case, the experts we are talking about are the people who do the work in the process every day.
These same people, in a short amount of time, can arrive at the best known way to do their work. In the process, they will consider what internal and external customers want, what the process needs from its suppliers, and what is required of everyone who works in the process. The result of their 6-8 hour effort is a Process Master which can be the foundation for continuous improvement of the process.
Process Mastering can contribute to the following outcomes.
